Day 38 Trip to Cape Leeuwin |
Thursday is a public holiday in Australia, a National Day of Mourning for the late Queen Elizabeth II. We have been given the key to another loan car and a key to the gate, so we can come and go as we please. What a great solution!
Flowering bushes along the road |
We travel south through a huge state forest and arrive at Augusta in time for morning tea.
Next stop is further south at the Flinders Bay Foreshore Reserve where we look out over the ocean and can see the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse. Needed to include a photo of the wildflowers, of course...
Next we visit the southern point of the Cape, where the Southern and Indian Oceans meet. The lighthouse is being renovated, and can't be climbed, so we give an actual visit a miss.
#2428 - Next Cache Antarctica (Traditional Cache)
The cache was an easy find. It is close to the Historic Water Wheel. Frank stood here 13 years ago when he visited the same place, and of course, took similar photos. A strange feeling... :-)
On our way north again we drop in at a Sculpture Park, but the entry price is too much for what is on offer, so we keep going.
There are whole areas with white flowers, which appear to be arum lilies. Being from South Africa they are considered a weed. The photo was taken from the fast moving vehicle, so not the best! We also pass through a burnt forest with new leaves sprouting from the bare branches.
We pass through Margaret River. Everyone raves about it, but other than wineries, in which we are not interested, there isn't much to stop for. We keep going and arrive at Busselton not much later.
Busselton is well-known for its mile long jetty. We have a look and take some pictures, but it's too late in the afternoon to walk the length of it and the train ride too expensive. We rather spend our money on coffee and a muffin... ;-)
And then it's time to go 'home'. The home with the beautiful views... ;-)
