's-Hertogenbosch

A trip to my old hometown.  Great to see José again after four long years. Best friends since 1970 or thereabouts, and colleagues some time before then. As our planned boat tour on the canals in 's-Hertogenbosch couldn't happen we stayed the rest of the day and had dinner at a nearby Chinese-Indonesian restaurant (Nanking). Photos are of lunch at José's place though. Of course we had "Bossche bollen" for morning tea and Kevin also got to taste Dutch croquettes!

Giethoorn

Today we visited Giethoorn, the "Venice of the Netherlands"

First we have a cup of coffee and then wander off through the village. Around the corner we come upon a museum and since we'd bought a museum pass we decided to go and have a look. No regrets there! It is an old farmhouse, complete with stable, outhouse, shed, chicken coop, and vegie garden. Everything the way it used to be.

In the museum grounds was a stork nest and lo and behold, while I was looking at it a couple of storks landed and I could film them!

After lunch we went on an hour-long boat trip through Giethoorn and the National Park near it. The ride back home took a lot longer than we had hoped for, but it's just the thing at peak hour time!
