Today we are swapping ships. We pack our suitcases and leave them at the door of our room. They will be shifted for us. Our new ship, the Polaris, will wait for us in Nuremberg and we will travel there by bus.
On the way we stop at a chocolate factory near Regensburg: Seidl Confiserie where we bought some lovey macadamia nut chocolate. (I wasn't going to, but... you know...😉)
Impressions of Nürnberg (or Nuremberg as the Americans call it). Not very strange as Nurem means rock and Berg means mountain, so it becomes Rocky Mountain 🙂) In the meantime we have also unpacked our suitcases which were ready for us in our rooms and have enjoyed a cup of coffee in the lounge. Ready for the second part of our adventure. This time on the ship Polaris

Today we are visiting Bamberg. Located at the entrance of the Main Danube canal, Bamberg has such an impressive array of historical buildings that it was designated a World heritage listed site in 1983. The Regnitz river runs through the centre of town, separating the old town from the new. Bamberg has a population of around 70,000 and the highlights of the city include its old city hall (Altes Rathaus) and the Cathedral with its famous Bamberger Rider sculpture. Bamberg has 9 breweries in town and 81 more in the surrounding region which produce over 200 different types of beers. Bamberg's specialty is a unique variety of smoked beer (Rauchbier) which is a dark red ale with a smoky flavour and an aftertaste of bacon. Bamberg's main shopping district is the pedestrian area called Gruener markt, which runs south from Maxplatz and the street parallel called Ausstrasse.
Below some impressions of Bamberg, where we arrived in the early hours of the morning. We had a guided tour, some free time during which we had coffee and Früchtenkuchen mit Streusel. Back on the ship we were entertained with line dancing, which unfortunately I cannot do anymore due to my hip problem, and now some relaxing time in our cabin with an open window! Let the sun shine in!
We have arrived in Würzburg. The weather has improved immensely and we can enjoy our surroundings with the windows down. It's Sunday, so church bells all around.
I will probably not have many pictures today. We have decided to give the two tours a miss in favour of a quiet day.
