Rivercruise - Cologne, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam

Wednesday 24 May 2023

Cologne

Cologne, the most disappointing city of our trip. We make a bus tour through the city (didn't get many opportunities for photos) and then go on to Brühl for a visit of a palace in Roccoco style: Augustusburg. Well worth the visit, but I should have dressed for cold weather! 15° C on a windy day is not pleasant.

#2492 - Schloss Augustusburg (Virtual cache)

Another virtual cache which required a photo in front of the castle including the letters CA. Not the best portrait of me, but it served the purpose. The photo was taken in the coach on departure as that's when I realised there was a cache! 🙂

In the afternoon we go for a short walk, but the city around the Dom has nothing of interest to offer. Perhaps if we could have gotten to the Altstadt, but that would have been too far for a walk.

After our departure from Cologne, at around Düsseldorf, we had a cocktail party with the captain and a gala dinner. The picture is of another couple, with whom we often sat together, and us at the dinner table. (We're not sure, but think to remember that their names were Tony and Christine from WA.)

In the early hours of the morning we travelled the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal and passed Houten!

Amsterdam

A few impressions of our boat tour in Amsterdam. The photos are not the best, having had to take them mostly through the reflecting and not so clean windows.

Currently approaching dinner time for our last dinner on board.

Rivercruise - Miltenberg, Bingen am Rhein, Rüdesheim am Rhein, Andernach

Monday 22 May 2023

Miltenberg

This morning we had a glassblower on board with a very interesting history and demonstration. After lunch a walk through this old town of Miltenberg.

Bingen am Rhein

It's about time I showed some pictures of our cabin. It's like a 5 🌟 hotel room and better than the hotel rooms we had in Dubai and Budapest. 🙂 In our copious spare time on board (when?) we can also watch the news, daily program and movies on the tv screen.

Entry

Ensuite behind the mirrored door

Rüdesheim am Rhein

In Rüdesheim we visit a most interesting museum of mechanical musical instruments.

And of course you can't get past a real "Rüdesheimer Kaffee". I had those cups since our first river cruise in 1971 and finally got rid of them at a recent garage sale! You have to let go of memories some time....

Just a series of photos taken on our trip through the beautiful Rhine gorge, including the Mouse Tower, the Lorelei and numerous castles.

Lorelei

Andernach

When docked at Andernach we go for an evening walk.

#2491 - ANTUNNACUM 2 ENDE + ANFANG (Traditional cache)

Just the one cache. Nothing special, but it adds to the numbers. I am nearly at 2500!
