Broken Hill to Cobar

 Monday 10 October 2023

Broken Hill to Cobar

Morning tea at Topar Roadhouse, mixing with the big boys!

Fuel and lunch at Wilcannia alongside the swollen Darling River. We may run into problems as a few roads in NSW are already flooded.

At Kerrigundi we stop for afternoon tea and work out the best and safest way home..., but for now we stop at Cobar for the night, right next to the information centre which we visited on the way to WA.

Roopena (north of Whyalla) to Broken Hill

 Sunday 9 October 2023

Roopena (north of Whyalla) to Broken Hill

Some impressions of the road to Broken Hill.

Plenty of flattened insects on the windscreen

On our way we pick up a cache at Morchard.

#2479 Morchard Boiler (Traditional cache)

Next stop is at Peterborough where we have lunch.

And then we cross the border into New South Wales.

Next stop is Broken Hill, but we don't venture into town. Instead we drive to the racecourse and stay there overnight.  We meet the lovely caretakers from Tasmania Helen & Gary. Gary drives me  in his car all the way to the office to pay his wife the overnight dues.  We joke a bit and then he returns me to the motorhome.  What a nice gesture.

Wangary to Roopena (north of Whyalla)

 Saturday 8 October 2022

Wangary to Roopena (nth of Whyalla)

Wangary wasn't a bad place for the night. And the sun is back!

Next stop is Coffin Bay.

Coffee at the Beachcomber. The emus quietly walk the streets here. We nearly flattened one down the road when it suddenly ran out of the bush in front of us and oncoming cars. It was his/her lucky day!

Fuel and a quick drive-through at Port Lincoln on the way to Port Augusta. Definitely on our way home now, and hopefully to warmer weather. 15°C is way too cold!

Lunch at a rest stop on the outskirts of Port Lincoln.

Lipson

'Oversize' tractor on the road with a pilot vehicle. Understandable though as it was slow and wide...

Cleve

Roadside covered in gazanias. And then next it's native bush again.

Cowell

Afternoon tea near the water where we photographed some flowers. Further down the street was a virtual cache.

# 2477 - The Black Stump Virtual (Virtual Cache)

Just out of Cowell silo art and a few sculptures.

Views from Whyalla.

And, while parked for the night I found this cache nearby:
