What a Wappa Event

Sunday, August 31, 2014

On Sunday we had registered for another event at the Wappa Dam, close to Nambour, north from where I live: "What a Wappa Event".

This time Adele, Kevin and the children would be present.  They picked me up at my, now usual, pick-up spot at McDonald's on the highway, which saves people the 40 minute round-trip to Bribie Island.

Close to the event Kevin picked up a few caches on the way that I had already found when I went to Dunethin Rock a few weeks ago.  We arrived early and greeted the others who were arriving gradually.

Next we were handed a sheet with a new multi cache that hadn't been published yet.  This, we were told, would take us a while to do, but we would be back in time for lunch and the raffles.  It wasn't to be.  We took fairly long to complete the multi and we didn't even walk the whole tour, which we were meant to do.

Pictures are yet to follow, because my camera batteries went flat almost straight after arrival.

After lunch, we hadn't missed any prizes in the raffles by the way, we received the instructions for the caches for the afternoon.

There were two regulars and a multi to be found.  All three were walks through the beautiful area around the dam and in the forest and near a rocky outcrop with a waterfall.

Since most people left rather early in the afternoon, and it being too late for a hike up the hillside, we decided to pack up and go in search of a few caches around Nambour on the way back.  We walked the Dinosaur Trail and found the cache at the Old Sugar Mill. All caches that I already had done with Heather and Colin on the way home from Dunethin Rock.

Since it got rather late after the long walk we had dinner on the go and made our way home.  We had a nice day, but for some reason or other rather tiring.

As I didn't have the pictures at the time of writing this update I am placing them at a later date (9/9/14).  As it is, we haven't been able to log the caches for a while either, because it took a long time to get them published as there seemed to be a little problem we were told.  Anyway, here goes:

Unfortunately we didn't have time for pictures of the old buildings in the town of Yandina where we did the multi in the morning.  It would have made a nice collection.  This last one of GZ will have to do...

FTF - Yeah!!!

Saturday, August 30, 2014

Yes, the title said it correctly, today I have had not only one, but three FTFs or First to Finds.

There were three caches that were published last night, and since I live in an area with a few very keen cachers who go out during the night, I didn't really expect to find a blank log.

I was up early and didn't feel like going on my regular Saturday bike ride, so remembered those published caches and thought the weather was perfect to spend some time outdoors anyway.

The first find was easy and to my surprise I came upon an empty logbook.  This happened not once, but three times.  Hurray!

This was another great morning, out in the bush amongst the birds.

And tomorrow: looking forward to another event!

Now, that's a birthday party!

Wednesday, August 13, 2014

Yes, that's right, a day long geocaching with friends was my idea of a birthday party.  What better than spending your birthday doing what you like doing: geocaching!

A group of people were planning to find a special series of caches put out by a person with lots of imagination.  So, off I went early in the morning to catch up with them somewhere in the western suburbs of Brisbane.  As I am hopeless with names, we have to remember real names and caching names, I try this from memory, but may have to make corrections later.  There were Kylie, Geoff, Susan, and Rachel.

Kylie I know fairly well by now, because we have met a few times, but the others were new to me.  This didn't matter, because we all loved the same thing...

Well, here I am listing the caches we found:

Temptation

Temptation: the snake and the apple!

Bob H.

This was a short multi and one of the most challenging I have come across so far.
We had to look for an implement to open the container.  What we found was not a key!
So, in the end we had to use this tool to get to the key.  We all had a try, and it was one of the girls who finally got it out and opened the container so we could sign the log...

The tool was hidden at a distance from the cache

Dak

This cache was perfectly put together with the use of eclipse tins.
Unfortunately it was muggled the day after we discovered it.
What a shame, because so much work has gone into these caches.

A dark (k)night indeed

Look what I found!!! :-)

And Home Grown concluded the caches for the day.  We had fun, we had results and could look forward to possibly doing something like this again.  The best birthday party ever!

With my buddy Heather at Beachmere

Wednesday, August 6, 2014

I am now so far behind, and have found so many caches, that I cannot do more than show pictures with the names of the caches, until I have caught up a little.  It doesn't really matter, as I don't need to do more than list all of them anyway.  Where needed I will make a comment, but that's all.

Here we go.  A day out with Heather on the Wednesday after our great camping weekend.  As I had placed my own caches in the meantime Heather wanted to go and get the one that took a bit of a walk to get to now we had a bit more time on our hands.

This is a picture Heather took on our walk back along the beach:

Next it was off to Beachmere, just across the bridge and then a bit, to find a series of caches.  I had done a few, Heather a few more, but there was still plenty before we had cleaned up the area.

Great camo again

Stumpy

There was also a cahe named Road from Beachmere, but I forgot to take a picture.  No harm done, because it was a copy of Road to Beachmere. :-)

After Beachmere had turned up lots of smileys on our maps it was time to go home.  So far I have been able to get by without an actual map on my GPS, but Heather helped me out and copied hers onto it.  Thanks buddy!  Then there was a bit time left for just a few more!  Yes, we can't help our selves...  Heather needed to get a few on Bribie and I had left one or two to do as well.  We had problems with two of them (and weren't the only ones to log a DNF), but Heather found hers and I did mine:

Stare View

This last one was very hard as it wasn't in the spot where the compass had us searching.  Nor where Heather remembered it to be, but finally we were able to log that one too.
